Main characteristics of polypropylene profiled fibers

Combining the inherent properties of polypropylene fiber with profiled cross-sections creates a "1+1 > 2" effect, as detailed below:

  • Luster and Aesthetics: Triangular cross-sections enable regular light reflection, endowing fabrics with a silk-like luster and overcoming the drawback of dull luster in ordinary round polypropylene fibers.

  • Moisture Absorption, Sweat Wicking and Moisture Conductivity: Polypropylene itself is non-absorbent. However, by designing it into cross-sections such as cross-shaped or Y-shaped, numerous fine grooves can be formed on the fiber surface, creating a capillary effect. These grooves can quickly "draw away" sweat or moisture from the skin surface, spread it to the fabric surface, and facilitate rapid evaporation, thus keeping the skin dry. This is one of the most important applications of profiled polypropylene fibers.

  • Loftiness and Coverage: Profiled cross-sections enhance the fiber's cohesion, resulting in yarns and fabrics that are more fluffy, soft, and have stronger coverage; the thermal insulation property is also improved accordingly.

  • Stain Resistance and Easy Cleaning: The fiber has a smooth surface and is hydrophobic, so stains are not easy to penetrate, making it easy to wipe and clean.

  • Lightweight and Thermal Insulation: Hollow profiled polypropylene fiber, in particular, maintains light weight while utilizing the internal static air layer to provide excellent thermal insulation. It is often used as a high-end thermal insulation filling material.
