This is achieved by altering the shape of the spinneret's micro-orifices. Conventional fibers have circular spinneret orifices, resulting in a circular cross-section. Shaped fibers, however, have spinneret orifices processed into various non-circular shapes.
Common shaped cross-sections include:
Triangular: Produces a diamond-like luster with a strong sheen.
Cross/Y-shaped: Increases fiber surface area, providing more capillary channels and enhancing moisture absorption and wicking properties.
Flat: Mimics the luster and feel of natural silk and increases coverage.
Hollow: Fibers with internal cavities trap still air, significantly improving warmth while reducing weight.
Multi-lobed: Such as five-lobed or eight-lobed shapes, produce a matte effect and a softer, fluffier feel
