Common identification methods for textile fibers

  • Melting point method: Different melting points of various chemical fibers can also be used to identify fibers.

  • Specific gravity method: The specific gravity of each textile fiber is different, and measuring the specific gravity can distinguish the fibers. The specific gravity method is generally not applied separately, but serves as an auxiliary method for confirming a particular fiber.

  • Birefringence method: The refractive index and birefringence of textile fibers are related to the chemical composition and arrangement of fiber molecules.

  • X-ray diffraction and infrared absorption spectroscopy: Due to the different structures of various fibers, both methods can be used to identify various textile fibers, among which infrared absorption spectroscopy is more effective.

  • Among them, combustion method is one of the commonly used methods for identifying textile fibers, which is fast, simple, and does not require special equipment and reagents.
